Here is the PDF of the full OPD statement I posted late Saturday night, which I know the SF Chronicle read, since I check my analytics. (Hi Chronicle.)
Unfortunately for the Chronicle reporters who wrote this story (two of them!), they didn’t open the PDF they received in their email from the Public Information Officer on-duty that day, and so quoted the entirely wrong person. Hence the helpful mark-ups.
Also? “Said” is not appropriate when you are paraphrasing a press release in its entirety.
Update: The Chronicle also got the starting point for the march entirely wrong.
One of the reporters who wrote the story said on Twitter that it was not that they couldn’t be bothered, it was that they were not scheduled to work the evening of the march. Take that as you will.
This reporter also asked if it was “wrong” to read my “work” when I pointed out that the Chronicle promptly clicks through to every press release I post here. I do not consider posting press releases in full as my “work” but, consider the source, and take that as you will too.
